What are your responsibilities at 9Mile?
I'm one of the co-founders and COO at 9 Mile Legacy Brewing and in charge of all of the operational needs, including production of beer, development of new beer recipes, quality control on products, supply management of brewing inputs and packaging, and general equipment/building maintenance.
What kept you busy before you joined the 9Mile team, and how do you bring that to your work here?
Before 9 Mile I worked various construction jobs in the residential and industrial areas. My most recent career before 9 Mile was working for Golder Associates Ltd. I worked there for 7 years, working my way up from a Lab / Field Technician to the Laboratory manager. My time at Golder taught me a number of skills - these include reproducible / repeatable results, project and people management, and client management.
What do you aspire to in your work?
I aspire to make well balanced great tasting beer to the best of my abilities and to ensure my team has the same level of care and attention to detail.
From your perspective on the team, what makes 9Mile different from other microbreweries?
What makes us different is that we have an authentic transparent story of how we started the business. Our core values include Excellence, Integrity and Respect. We strive to use our values to guide what we do every day in our decision making. This translates to the beer that we make, the partnerships that we enter and how we interact with our community.
What are you committed to/excited about/inspired by outside of your work (pick whichever prompt resonates most)?
My wife and I recently had a son. He is now my whole world and what I am committed most to. Getting home to see him just makes my day. He inspires me to be the best that I can be.
Where do you see yourself in 50 years?
In 50 years I will be 90 and could very well be dead. Hopefully retirement will be in full swing and I’m living on the beach somewhere.
